AN EXCEPTIONALLY SIMPLE TAPESTRY OF EVERYTHING
SOFTWARE BY EVERYONE, FOR EVERYONE. Why did we choose 'Loom' as the name for this Indra's Net of metadata? For one, it is a homograph. A homograph is two words, spelled the same, that have two very different meanings. Loom is both a verb that means to rise and fall like the sea, to arise before the vision in great size or to assume form as an impending event; and, it is also a noun - a human-powered tool that has been used to weave threads into fabrics, textiles and tapestries for more than a thousand years.
"...among the joyous, heartless, ever-juvenile eternities, Pip saw the multitudinous, God-omnipresent, coral insects, that out of the firmament of waters, heaved the colossal orbs. He saw God's foot upon the treadle of the loom, and spoke it; and therefore his shipmates called him mad." - MOBY DICK
