I've been working full-time now on fundraising for other people's businesses since 2018 and I've raised millions with over 100 companies and before that I was raising funding for my own businesses from VC investors, elite athletes and high net worth.

And here's the top five things they look for, and it's never what you think. The main question I get asked all day in my inbox, what's your success rate?

Can I raise funding? Do you think you can help me? And ultimately, it's impossible for me to state that. Because there's so much more to being investable than just the documents.

Yes, I can make you the best pitch d***. We can make you the best finance model. We can create the best investor outreach program in the world, but it all comes down to that gut feeling.

Understanding what creates that is much more important. So the first thing is communication. Communication is the fundamental basic. You know that it's part of every successful relationship and investors are trying to weed out those.

That they think are just going to email them once a year when their bank accounts empty and they need some cash.

How you can show that's not you is by showing that communication is part of the DNA in your business. Well-documented team meeting.

Things, open channels of feedback, and clarity and vision are all great indicators. The next transparency, obviously again, but transparency breeds trust, and in an environment where trust is everything, you need to double down on this.

We do that by reporting financials, open discussions about the challenges that you've got and ultimately sharing roadmaps, roadblocks and everything in between really help to foster that.

The next is performance. Ideas are everywhere. I get 100 ideas a day in my inbox. We're swimming in ideas. But execution and truly great execution is rare, you know, to do that.

And to show that, you need regular performance reviews with KPIs, tracking metrics. As the entrepreneur, you should own that. You can't farm that out to anyone else.

It should be right there. You should tattoo it on your eyelids so you can. Read them while you sleep. Personality is king in this sort of queen in this scenario and my skills and knowledge and everything else is critical.

You know, vibrant personality is infectious. And it can get people to come along on your vision. The way to do that and the way to show that is to have a great team in the business, nurture in an environment where personalities can thrive.

Who you have around you. Is a massive indicator for an investor. Take a look left and right and see how you think you'd come across to an investor.

Passion is the driving force for any business. Shows that you've got what it takes to smash through walls and go the extra mile.

It's that resilience, that innovation that keeps you going when the chips are against you. So to do that, we encourage passion projects.

Within the business. Celebrate small wins, you know, sharing that why around your mission are all great ways to do this.
