3 tips for recording a clear and engaging video

Hey, George here from the proc marketing team at loom. And I want to share three tips for recording clear and engaging videos.

So the first tip is to not speak too fast. So this is something I struggle with. I, you know, when I start recording, I get a little nervous.

I just kind of get through it. And sometimes I'll just start speaking too fast. Um, so you just wanna remember talk at a normal pace, uh, and your viewer can always increase the playback speed if they want to hear you talk a little bit faster, um, but you don't need to do it for them.

The second tip is to make eye contact. So this one depends a little bit on, you know, who your audience is, and it also takes a little bit of practice, but I think especially if you are introducing yourself to maybe someone new or talking to customers, uh, you definitely want to like, remember look up at the webcam establish eye contact, um, at the beginning of your video.

And then I think best practice is kind of like the beginning and, uh, the end, uh, you know, if you're going back and forth with, you know, a coworker working on a project and you just need to show them real quick, maybe just, you know, make eye contact at beginning, then you can start focus and, uh, what you're demoing or showing.

Um, but you also want to come back to the, to the camera to establish that connection. And the last tip is to share an outline.

And this one is, especially if you don't really have something to show, maybe you're just, you know, talking through something, um, and would either, otherwise it'd be on a cam only recording, uh, sharing an outline can really help reinforce your message and make the takeaways, uh, very clear as well as any action items.

And so this is something that, you know, kind of happened organically at loom. People would sort of be like, actually I can to use these notes, you know, to help guide my video for myself, but then start sharing them and actually ended up being a really sort of effective way for us to communicate.

And so we definitely recommend that you try it. So those are three tips we have for recording, clear engaging videos.
