I went to Puerto Rico and for 75 days I did fieldwork instead of writing. At first, I felt guilty but then it got easier it was not hard at all to go back to writing again as is such an important practice for me. In all of this, I remember that anything that furthers your research (like fieldwork and notes) could be counted as writing as long as it is not resistance.

So true Ivis! And frankly your writing practice is so rock solid I know you can trust yourself to be true to it, no matter what shape it takes.

I would add: thanks to you! Who told me my job was to be a writer: that clicked!

Thank you Michelle! 🙏 I thoroughly enjoyed this instructive video. I've shared with others. Conversation encouraged me for some of my rituals (eg, rewards before, during, & after writing and literal & figurative "warm up" techniques).

Joycelyn! So glad you enjoyed this and thanks for sharing it with others. I just finished the MLA Sit and Write that you suggested I do. I love hearing about all the love and warmth you're giving yourself during your writing, because you are such a CHAMPION writer, even when you don't feel like it, and you (and your writing) deserve all that self love.
