The creator clicks the clock icon in the Add Data window to load past changes, which may take a minute, and shows all the times the map was logged and modified. By clicking the small eyeball, they can view the prior map settings such as layers and backgrounds. From there, they can restore to that version or click Restore as New to copy it into a new map.
