As a beginner freelancer, you may find that clients want to see your freelance portfolio, but also as a beginner, you may find it challenging to find things to put in your portfolio. Here&apos;s how you can build a freelance portfolio, even with no experience.

So what is a portfolio? A freelance portfolio is proof that you truly know how to do the services you offer. It&apos;s a way to showcase a variety of previous work to clients, giving them a clear idea of what your work typically looks like so they can have confidence in your capabilities.

If you&apos;re making a portfolio with no experience, here&apos;s what you can do.

Number one, utilize school and personal projects. A lot of freelancers feel that school and personal projects are a bit too juvenile to put in their portfolio.
However, if the work is related to what you want to freelance, absolutely put in your portfolio. A few examples include a social media strategy assignment you did for marketing class, photos you did for a friend, or a logo you designed for your dad&apos;s side hustle. If it&apos;s related to the work you want to freelance, put it in your portfolio.

Number two: create sample work pieces. If you don&apos;t have any work you&apos;ve already done, use one of the prompts on the screen to create a sample work piece. For example, if you want to be a social media manager, pick a popular brand on social media, think about what you would do if you were in charge of that account, and create a mock Instagram feed or some mock Tik Toks to show how you&apos;d actually do it. And then take that and put that in your portfolio.

Number three: take skill courses. A skill course online is just a way to gain some credibility in the industry and show clients that you have studied and understand the topic that you want to freelance.

Once you have things to put in your portfolio, it&apos;s time to decide where you want to host it. This is going to depend largely on your industry and the type of work you hope to showcase. For example, Contently is great for writers, Github is great for web developers. Find something that works for the work you want to showcase and go forward with that.

So to recap, a portfolio is your opportunity to show clients the skills you have so they feel confident in booking your services. Utilizing school and personal projects, sample pieces you create from prompts, and skill courses are great ways to create a high impact freelance portfolio as a beginner.</description></oembed>
