Creating regular backups of your company file helps protect your bookkeeping data and gives you a copy to restore if needed.

Create a Backup
Open the company file you want to back up.
Go to Utilities &gt; Backup / Restore Database.
Select Yes when prompted.
The backup name will automatically fill in with Bookkeeper BKU, followed by the date and timestamp.
If you are a bookkeeper, we recommend changing the beginning of the file name to the company name. For example:
Sarah&apos;s Landscape BKU 2026-09-22 11-45
Choose where you want to save the backup.
Brass Jacks Bookkeeper will automatically point to the location you used for your previous backup.
Click Browse if you want to select a different location.
You can save backups in multiple locations. For example, you may want one copy on your computer and another copy in a cloud storage location.
Click Start to create the backup.
When the backup is complete, click Save.
Important Backup Tip

Keep your backups somewhere separate from your active company file. Having more than one backup location can provide additional protection if something happens to your computer or primary storage location.

Before Restoring a Backup

Restoring a database overwrites the company file you currently have open.

If you need to restore a backup, always create a backup of your current company file first. This gives you a way to recover your current data if you restore the wrong backup or discover that you need information from the current file.</description></oembed>
